   I bought an Alpine 9847 and the Ipod interface. I works but it totally hijacks your Ipod. The beautiful intuitve, fast controls on the Ipod itself are locked out and you can ONLY control the Ipod from the car stereo. It is therefore very hard to deal with especially if you have a large music catalog on you Ipod. It is very slow, not at all intuitive. Even after getting used to it it is no good. The info on artist, album or song title imports from the IPod very slowly. Turning the volume knob is equivalent to circling on the Ipod but one turn eqauls about 3 spots on the list unlike one circle on the Ipod which equals dozens of spots on the list. Therefore if you have a large catalog you have to spin the volume knob 100 times to get thru a long catalog list which takes forever……..Very annoying, very slow, very cumbersome. If only it did not deactivate the normal controls on the Ipod itself. A better and much cheaper solution is to find a car stereo with some form of line in, either stereo mini plug or RCA jacks. The just connect directly and use the IPods own controls which are infinitely better. I replace an old stereo to get the Ipod option and am very sorry I did so.

   I bought this product thinking it was the perfect solution to yet another worn out CD player in my Honda Accord. Maneuvering through the playlists isn’t as big a deal as some reviews I’ve seen, but the big disappointment was that it cannot recharge my new iPod Nano 5th generation. All the literature for the interface said it would, but those must have been the earlier generations of the Nano. Haven’t taken a long trip yet with it, but I guess I’ll also now have to get a separate car charger for the iPod.

   It was easy to install and hide in my glove box with just a couple of small holes drilled along the seams of the box, and run the cable to the iPod underneath the center console of my Honda Accord into the compartment between the front seats making the iPod easy to hide and access while driving.

   I originally purchased this to connect my 3rd generation iPod, and it worked great. When I bought my iPhone I just assumed it wouldn’t work, since many chargers, cables, etc. made to work with the original iPods don’t work with the iPhone or iPod touch.

   I researched the issue and found that, after upgrading the firmware on the stereo, I was able to play music from and charge my iPhone through my stereo. Here is the link: [...]

   Bought this product and it doesn’t work like it suppose too. Yes it plus my iPod music on the stereo but only certain songs. Tried using it with my iPhone and it too only plays certain songs and it WONT charge your iPhone. Save your money and don’t buy this product…..it really sucks.
   
   P.S. Also take into consideration you have to make lots of room around the stereo to store the brain and cable

   It was very easy to setup! The sound quality is great. Its a little hard at first but i just set up diffrent play list, so when i plug it in I just make sure to select the play list I want to hear. It is also nice that the cable is long enough so u can hide your ipod in your glove box or arm rest! There is one down fall but it really doesn’t bother me, I have the itouch 2nd gen and it doesn’t charge my battery.
