Product Description

04|Dec|2009 1This product had wonderful reviews and that is why I chose to buy. Since iPhone is also an “iPod”, I incorrectly assumed it would be compatible. It is not compatible with iPhone so beware.

04|Dec|2009 2I’m not dissapointed with product but with the seller that is telling people that works for Iphone, IT DOESN’T. So don’t waste your money if you want it for your Iphone.

05|Dec|2009 3Nowhere does it state that this device is incompatible with iPod-classic. Do not expect to hear quality sound if you connect your classic to your stereo with this cable - it stinks.

05|Dec|2009 4*Note: I was able to get the cable to work, so amend the stars above up to 5.*
Make sure your stereo system has RCA line-in jacks. Otherwise you will need an additional all-female Y-cable to connect to a line headphone/aux cable (the kind with headphone plugs on both sides), which THEN plugs into your system. Luckily I had that cable already, and together they deliver a loud, crisp audio signal.
The connection looks something like this:
[______]=———————-=———<>———————-[][o []]
Stereo___Headphone/Aux cable____Y-cable_____RCA to iPod cable____iPod
I bought the cable for the head unit in my car though, which also turns out NOT to have RCA line-ins (it does have two line-outs). I used the aux cable as above…
EDIT: IT WORKS! Having three cables leading to the iPod is a bit much, but bunching them up with a twist-tie makes them more manageable. Volume is controlled through the head unit rather than the iPod, so you can leave the player at any volume you want. Using the aux cable alone, I had to set the volume at 40, but now it’s all the way down to 15. Sound quality is much improved - before everything sounded tiny and a bit muffled, but now it’s richer and fuller and seems to take better advantage of all four speakers.
*PS: I’m using an iPod classic 120gb. I don’t know why the cable isn’t working for other people who own a classic, but it works for this model just fine.*
